Former England manager Gareth Southgate has been awarded a knighthood in His Majesty The King’s New Year 2025 Honours List.
Southgate led England to two back-to-back European Championship finals. He is only the third manager to lead the England football team in more than 100 matches during his tenure as coach.
The 54-year-old has been awarded for his services to English football. Notably, he ended a 55-year wait for the England men’s team to reach a European final in 2020, where his side was narrowly defeated on penalties by Italy.
Southgate concluded his role as England’s manager following a hard-fought loss to Spain in the 2024 Euro finals, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and progress for the national team.
Interestingly, Southgate has hinted that his next career move may not involve football. Reports suggest he might pursue philanthropic endeavors, potentially supporting The Prince’s Trust, a charity dedicated to helping young people achieve their educational aspirations.
His commitment to a positive impact beyond football has sparked admiration from fans and colleagues alike.
